Week 5: Fruitfulness on the Frontline

Monday 11 March  – The Big Picture

  • Father, I take my every day, ordinary life—sleeping, eating, going to work, and walking around life—and place it before you as an offering. (Rom 12:1 MSG).
  • I ask that you help me develop a richer understanding of fruitful living for you. Help me see that everyone, including me, has a frontline. (John 15:16 NLT).
  • Lord, open the eyes of my understanding (further, deeper, wider, higher) to see what and where my frontline is and assess how I am already being fruitful therein. (Col 1:10 KJV).
  • Father, give me eyes and heart to see where you would have me serve you, the desire and courage to ask what you would have me do, and the love and grace to do it. (2 Cor 12:9 KJV; John 21:17-19 TLB).
  • Help me grasp a better understanding of the bigger picture and my part in it – Your plan to reconcile ALL THINGS to yourself by taking all the broken and dislocated pieces of the universe— people and things, animals and atoms— and fixing them and fitting them together in vibrant harmonies. (Col 1:20 NIV; Col 1:20 MSG; 2 Cor 5:18-20 ESV).
  • I pray for an increased awareness and alertness that you are with us on our frontlines and that you will be Lord in all our frontlines, whatever happens. (Matt 28:19-20 ESV; Phil 2:10-11 ESV).
  • Help us see that we do not need to have a high position, a university degree, or lots of money to have a significant impact for you. (John 15:5 KJV).

Tuesday 12 March –  Modelling Godly Character

  • Father, help me see the importance of displaying godly character on my frontline. (Matt 5:16 ESV; 1 Pet 2:12 ESV).
  • Help me to display godly character through my actions and emotional posture. I want to do the right thing but in a kind manner. I want to do the right thing under pressure, in a joyous manner marked by an elemental peace. (1 Cor 13:4;Col 1:11 ISV).
  • Father, by your grace, I walk and live habitually in the Spirit, being responsive to, controlled, and guided by the Spirit, and I DO NOT gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God). (Gal 5:16 AMPC).
  • Father, thank you for wanting me to become more like your Son. Forgive my cherishing of ungodly thoughts and my persistence in ungodly actions. And work in me by your Spirit, that I might turn from the darkness of my sin and walk in the light of your grace. (Romans 8:26-29 NLT).
  • In Jesus’ name, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, I walk in selfless love and inner assurance. The fruit of the Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence) (Gal 5:22-23 APMC).
  • In Jesus name, I do not fulfil the lust of the flesh. (Gal 5:16 KJV).

Wednesday 13 March – Making Good Work

  • Father, thank you for the good works you have enabled me to identify. Show me more of how we might make good work with You on my frontline. (Col 1:9-10 ESV).
  • Help my heart accept the new, expanded definition of work you want me to have. Help me to see that anything and everything I do – Whatever I do – you want me to work at it will all my heart. (Col 3:23-24 NIV).
  • Help me to see that we serve you by serving others (Matt 25:34-40 ESV)
  • Help me to see that How I serve also matters. I pray not only that I might do my work well but also that I might serve other people in a way that will praise and glorify you. (1 Pet 4:9 ESV ; Phil 2:14 ESV; Matthew 5:16 ESV).
  • From today onwards, I will work harder, energetically, competently, and carefully with love in my heart for God and people. (Matt 22:36-40 NIV).
  • Father, I pray for an increased sense that you are with me on my frontline. Open my eyes to see how everyday tasks matter and play a part in your big plans for the world. (Matt 28:20 ESV).
  • Holy Spirit show me how to develop a rhythm of prayer that invites you to work with me in my day-to-day tasks so that I am always working in your strength. (Rom 8:26 ESV).
  • Father, I want to be a person who brings order, makes provision, brings joy, beauty, and releases potential. (Gen 1:27-28 ESV).
  • Father, grant me this day your wisdom, your strength, your Spirit, to help me do all I do for you, that it may be helpful to others, bring contentment to my heart and glory to your name. (Col 1:9-11 KJV).

Thursday 14 March: Ministering Grace and Love

  • Father, teach me how to minister grace and love to those I interact with on my frontline. (John 14:26 AMPC).
  • Father, open my eyes to see the immeasurable riches of your grace and love towards me in Christ and help me to show the same grace and love towards others. (Eph 2:7, John 3:16 ESV).
  • Father, I set my heart to be more graceful and loving, doing things I don’t have to do for others but things that I choose to do. (John 21:17-19 NLT).
  • Father, I desire to be like the good Samaritan. I want to be a person of compassion. I want to “bind up the wounded” and “pour on oil and wine”. I want to “set people on my own animal” and “bring them to an inn and take care of them”. I set my heart to “do likewise” on my frontline. (Luke 10:25-37 ESV).
  • Father, I do not want to think about myself alone; grant me the wherewithal to support my brothers and sisters on their frontlines, too. (Phil 2:4;1 Cor 10:24 NLT).
  • Lord, help me see people, places, and issues with your eyes and love. (Matt 4:19 NIV; Luke 13:18-19 MSG).

Friday 15 March: Moulding Culture

  • Holy Spirit, show me how I might begin to influence the culture of my frontline in accordance with kingdom values. (Matt 5:13-16 ERV).
  • I believe that with purposeful prayer and planning, things can change on my frontline. I recognise that sometimes this may take time, but I am determined to recognise and praise you for any good fruit experienced along the way. (Phil 1:19;2 Cor 1:11;Prov 24:3-4;Mark 4:26-29).
  • Father, may my frontline become a place of joy, justice, and shalom. Give me ears to hear how I might pray, eyes to see what you would have me do, and wisdom to do it in your ways. (Deut 32:3-4 NASB)
  • Father help us to build enthusiastic teams, happy families, and great morale on our frontline. (Phil 2:20 NASB).

Saturday 16 March: Mouthpiece for Truth and Justice

  •  Holy Spirit, Show me how I might be a mouthpiece for truth and justice on my frontline. (Isa 1:17 NIV;2 Sam 12:1-13 NIV).
  • Father, help me to love mercy, seek justice and walk humbly before you on my frontline. (Mic 6:8 NIV).
  • Give me ears to discern where falsehoods reign, eyes to see where injustice has its roots, wisdom, and courage to cultivate truth and justice. (Heb 1:8-9 KJV, Deut 32:4 NASB1995).
  • Father, I want to continue to be faithful to the mission you have given me, so I pray for boldness in speaking and for you to show your power in miraculous ways. (Act 4:29-30 KJV).
  • Father, let me not be weary in speaking for truth and justice. I am committed to overcoming evil with good. (Gal 6:9; Rom12:21 ESV).
  • The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. (widely attributed to Edmund Burke -1729-1797).

Sunday 17 March: Messenger of the Gospel

  • Father, teach me how to be a skilful messenger of the gospel on my frontline. (Isa 52:7 NIV; Rom 10:15 NIV; Eph 6:15 NIV).
  • Help me grow in confidence, intentionality, and readiness to share the good news of Jesus with those on my frontline. (1 Peter 3:15 NLT; Eph 6:15 ESV).
  • Help me to see how my verbal witness is intrinsically linked to the witness of my actions. (1 Pet 2:11-12 NLT).
  • I declare I am a child of God, led by the Spirit of God. I am obedient to the Holy Spirit’s leading and promptings to draw alongside individuals he already knows and loves and is already working in. (Rom 8:14 KJV).
  • Holy Spirit, help me identify and pray for the people on my frontline whose journey to salvation I should be participating in. (Col 4:12 AMP).
  • Help me develop an open relationship with them that will allow me to get to know them and for them to get to know me. (Rom 12:9-10;1 Tim 1:5 NABRE).
  • Show me how I might deepen trust between me and the person I am praying for. Open a door not just for a gospel-focused conversation but for a relationship of openness and trust. Help me to see how you are working in them, just as you are in me. (Col 4:3;2 Thess 3:1 KJV).
  • Holy Spirit teach me how to bring the Gospel into a conversation. I want to be able to offer biblical perspectives on what’s going on in the world. I want to be able to give my personal testimony in a compelling way and find helpful ways to communicate the gospel. (1 John 2:20;27 ESV).
  • I commit to serving on my frontline, your frontline, for the rest of my days, all the days of my life. (Josh 24:15; 1 King 18:21 ESV)
  • Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come; your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Your kingdom come, your will be done in my heart, my life, my town, my home, my relationships, my work, as it is in heaven. And to your glory may it be (Matt 6:9-10 ESV).
